Warp-knit 2-way stretch & lycra velvet for sherwani, safa and garments — plus embroidered velvet varieties.

Knitted 2-Way Stretch Velvet velvet fabric by Shailesh Velvet (Kedarnath)

Knitted stretch velvet is a warp-knitted velvet with spandex, giving two-way stretch and good recovery. It runs 58-60 inches wide, from plain qualities to a heavy garment-grade around 180 gsm, and includes lycra and embroidered variants. Shailesh Velvet Industries (Kedarnath Velvet) is a knitted velvet fabric manufacturer in India supplying sherwani, gown, blouse and costume makers, wholesalers and importers.

Construction and specifications

Knitted velvet is made on warp-knitting machines, not looms. Spandex in the base gives two-way stretch that recovers after wear, so the fabric fits close without bagging. Weights run from light plain qualities up to a heavy garment-grade for structured pieces like sherwanis. Plain, lycra, heavy and embroidered qualities are produced.

Uses and ordering

Knitted velvet is used for sherwanis, safas, kurtas, gowns, blouses, lehengas, leggings and stage costumes. We supply by the than or the metre, dye to custom colours, and offer embroidered and custom-weight variants for private-label orders. Azo-free dyes and sampling are available and MOQs are negotiable. As a GST-registered, IEC-holding manufacturer with around 40 years in velvet, we ship pan-India and export.

Knitted 2-Way Stretch Velvet — frequently asked questions

How is knitted velvet different from woven velvet?

Knitted velvet has spandex in the base, so it stretches two ways and recovers its shape. Woven velvet is rigid. The stretch makes fitted sherwanis, gowns and costumes easier to cut and fit.

What weights and widths do you offer?

It runs 58-60 inches wide across several weights, from light plain qualities up to about 180 gsm for structured tailoring. All qualities carry two-way stretch.

What is the MOQ and do you provide samples?

Minimum order quantity is negotiable and depends on colour, weight and any embroidery. Samples are available so you can test stretch, recovery and colour before bulk.

Do you supply lycra and embroidered velvet?

Yes. We produce plain, lycra and embroidered knitted velvet, and can match custom shades or add all-over or panel embroidery for private-label orders.

Can you export knitted velvet?

Yes. We ship to overseas buyers and classify the fabric under HSN 6001 (pile fabrics) for customs and billing, with rolled, protective packaging.
